Libyan Military Deserters Have Aided Rebellion

Military desertion has helped parts of eastern Libya break away from the control of Moammar Gadhafi. But soldiers backing the rebellion and other government opponents fear a fight against merecenaries for control of Tripoli.

Celebrations occur in some areas while slaughters occur in other regions.

Deserters say Moammar Gadhafi is finished, but they fear mercenaries that are roaming the country. Gadhafi has a long history of mistrust of his own soldiers, and soldiers demonstrated how he used torture on the soldiers.
