Leaders meeting at an international conference on Afghanistan have agreed on a timetable for foreign forces to exit the country. The delegates in London Thursday also backed the Afghan president’s plan to lure Taliban to renounce violence.
NATO reported that two US service members have been killed by a roadside bomb in southern Afghanistan. Tuesday’s bomb attack mark the 18th death of Americans killed in Afghanistan this year.
Taliban Spokesman Zabiullah Mujahid said militants planted a roadside bomb that claimed the lives of two US soldiers in a passing military convoy in the Gurbez district of Khost province on Sunday.
Four other U.S. soldiers died when their vehicle went over an improvised explosive device (IED) in Khost’s provincial capital. The incident was also claimed by the militants.
Rupert Hamer, The Sunday Mirror’s defence correspondent, has been killed in an explosion Saturday in Afghanistan. The Mirror’s photographer, Philip Coburn, was also seriously injured in the detonation of an IED near an US army vehicle in which they were travelling. Hamer, 39, and Coburn, 43, were embedded with the US Marine Corps when a US marine and an Afghan soldier were also killed in the blast n the Nawa province of southern Afghanistan.
Jordanian doctor Humam Khalil Abu Mulal al-Balawi, who killed seven CIA employees in a suicide attack in Afghanistan, said in posthumous video clips broadcast Saturday that all jihadists must attack U.S. targets to avenge the death of Pakistani Taliban chief Baitullah Mehsud.
A suicide bomber targeted pro-government militia commander Nasir Paray and detonated his suicide bomb vest in a southeastern provincial capital, Gardez of Patkia Province on Thursday, Ten people (including the commander and 4 childeren) were killed and 27 people (mostly civilians) were injured about 50 miles south Kabul.

DEC 15 2009 KABUL, AFGHANISTAN — A suicide car bombing in an elite neighborhood of Kabul, Afghanistan killed at least eight people and wounded at least 40. A man drove a car to a checkpoint near the Heetal Plaza Hotel in Kabul’s Wazir Akbar Khan district of the city — a bomb in the car detonated and exploded.
