Director of National Intelligence Alert: 598 detainees have been transferred out of U.S. custody at Guantanamo. One out of every four of the 598 former detainees is now considered a confirmed or suspected recidivist by the U.S. government — 150 former Guantanamo detainees are either “confirmed or suspected of reengaging in terrorist or insurgent activities.
Guantánamo Bay is a detainment facility of the United States located in Cuba. The facility was established in 2002 by the Bush Administration to hold detainees from the war in Afghanistan and later Iraq. It is operated by the Joint Task Force Guantánamo of the United States government in Guantánamo Bay Naval Base, which is on the shore of Guantánamo Bay.[1] The detainment areas consist of three camps: Camp Delta (which includes Camp Echo), Camp Iguana, and Camp X-Ray, the last of which has been closed.

Yemen received six detainees from the U.S. after they were released from the U.S. prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, Friday December 18, 2009.
The transfers of the following Yemeni citizens took place on Saturday December 19, 2009:
Jamal Muhammad Alawi Mari, Farouq Ali Ahmed,Ayman Saeed Abdullah Batarfi, Muhammaed Yasir Ahmed Taher, Fayad Yahya Ahmed al Rami and Riyad Atiq Ali Abdu al Haf.

Administration officials as well as Illinois Sen. Richard Durbin and Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn are expected to make an official announcement at the White House that Guantanamo Bay detainees will be transferred to an underutilized high-security prison in Illinois. GOP Rep. Mark Kirk, who is running for President Obama’s former Senate seat, believes moving Guantanamo detainees to Illinois will put the state at greater threat for terrorist attacks.
Closing Guantanamo is a top priority for Obama, and he signed an executive order hours into his presidency directing that the process of closing the prison begin. Obama has said he wants terrorism suspects transferred to American soil so they can be tried for their suspected crimes.
Prisoners: 100 of the worst of the worst are expected to be transferred to the Thomson Correctional Center in Thomson, Illinois.
