Suspected Muslim militants on Wednesday opened fire and lobbed grenades in the main market area of Indian Kashmir’s summer capital Srinagar, killing one police officer, wounding eight, and sending residents running for cover.
One or two gunmen are barricaded in a city centre hotel, which was quickly surrounded by heavily armed members of the security forces.
